Where Kevin Stands

Real positions on the issues that matter most to Kyrene students, families, and educators.

  • Kevin believes that students must be at the center of every decision the Board makes. Too often across the country, school board meetings devolve into chaos and politicking, leaving districts paralyzed by dysfunction. In the end, it's the students who lose. Kevin's approach is different: prioritize students and their achievement, and the community comes together.

  • Kyrene's own data shows that many students are not yet reaching their full potential — and that same data shows that when resources are equitably allocated to where they are most needed, students achieve greater growth. Kevin will continue working with district leadership to implement data-informed strategies that close gaps and promote fair and equitable practices for every student.

  • Kevin believes student achievement must be defined by holistic growth and development — not just standardized test scores. As Board President, he championed the "Portrait of a Kyrene Kid": a community-built vision of the skills, traits, and competencies every student should exemplify by 8th grade, including critical thinker, community contributor, and self-advocate. When students promote from 8th grade, Kevin wants them leaving with a strong foundation prepared to succeed not just in high school, but in life.

  • Kevin is committed to targeted resources in the classroom that provide individualized academic support — especially for students who need it most. A focus on early literacy and foundational math and science skills is essential. Assessments help teachers identify gaps, but student success must be defined by more than test scores.
